Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Marriage & Family Therapist (MFT)?
MFTs are mental health professionals who specialize in working with individuals, couples and families. MFTs believe that an individual's emotional concerns or issues can be more meaningful and productive when treated within the context of his or her relationships.
A family's patterns of behavior influence the individual and therefore may need to be a part of the treatment plan. In Marriage and Family therapy, the unit of treatment isn't just the person - even if only a single person is interviewed - it is a set of relationships which the person is embedded.
Marriage and Family Therapy is:

Where are you located? Located at 2911 Dixwell Avenue, Suite 104 in Hamden, CT, a few blocks from I-91 and CT 15. Please visit our "Contact Us" page for more information.
What are your hours? Candela Counseling, LLC offers evening and Saturday hours as well.
When will I be able to begin? Most clients can have their first session within just a few days of their initial phone call. The goal is to help you begin your journey toward personal and relational growth, healing, and happiness as soon as possible and at a pace that is comfortable for you.
How long are the counseling sessions? A typical counseling session is 50 minutes. Initially, sessions are scheduled once a week. As therapy progresses and positive changes occur, sessions can be scheduled every two weeks or monthly.
Do you accept insurance?
I currently accept Healthy CT insurance. For all other insurance plans, services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. In this case you would be paying the session fee and then seeking reimbursement from your insurance provider.
I require 48 hour notice of cancellation. If you do not show up for your scheduled therapy appointment, and you have not provided advance notice, you will be required to pay the full cost of the session.
